System Overview


1) What is a basic system block diagram?

The servo controller provides the PID control loop that positions a DC motor according to a commanded position. The position commands may be serial DMX512 data, R/C pulse width commands, or an analog voltage. The entire system is typically powered by 12 or 24 vdc power supply or battery.

2) Can a commercially available servo actuator be used?

Yes, servo actuators are available from companies such as CK Design Technology, UltraMotion,
E Drive Design, Warner Electric, Duff-Norton and Thomson Industries contain both the DC Motor and the Position Feedback Potentiometer that were shown in the preceding block diagram. Using a servo actuator, the block diagram looks like this:
